Lecture descriptions

Restoring Shattered Lives Seminar offers 16 topics covered in a comprehensive 3-day event. They provide valuable insight on ministering healing for DID and ritual abuse. The DVD format allows viewers to see all the PowerPoint projections, role plays and other dramatic effects.

Introduction and Definitions  (30-45 min)

Overview of information to be presented during the seminar or workshop along with definitions of the main terminology that will be used.

A Personal Journey—Diane Hawkins  (50 min)

Diane candidly shares her own story from her first recognition of abnormal symptoms through her frustrating pursuit of understanding to her eventual diagnosis of DID/RA. She also recounts her growing awareness, and reluctant acceptance, of the reality of demonization in her life. This personal account usually provides an effective introduction to the seminar.

The Luciferian/Satanic Agenda—Tom Hawkins  (60-90 min)

In the context of tracing the origin, growth, and final end of Satan and his kingdom, Tom discusses the spiritual contamination of the human gene pool and the origin of the Babylonian mystery religions as well as their relevance to Luciferianism, the Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) being reported today, and end-time events. He describes the coinciding agenda of Luciferianism/Satanism and provides Biblical data supporting an end-time world conspiracy of nations rising up against the purposes of God and His kingdom.

Introductory Dynamics of DID—Diane Hawkins  (30-45 min)

Using a computer analogy, Diane presents a model for understanding the mental dynamics involved in dissociation and the development of DID. Through a vivid personal example she illustrates how the mind cleverly designs each alter-identity to fit the exact need of the moment. She also describes many types of non-dissociative means for coping with trauma. If given 45 minutes, she describes various types of alter-identities and demonstrates possible ways in which alters may emerge to participate in external life.

Diagnostic Symptoms of DID—Tom Hawkins with Diane (75-90 min)

Tom discusses the various diagnostic tests currently available for DID. Then, in the context of a dramatized diagnostic interview with Diane, he discusses a broad spectrum of symptoms clusters experienced by individuals with DID and demonstrates the use of a helpful symptom evaluation tool he has devised focusing particularly on the subtle indications of complex DID/RA. If given additional time, he can discuss more specific indicators of ritual abuse (RA).

The Dynamics of Memory—Diane Hawkins (45 min)

Because of the great controversy over the reality and reliability of “recovered memories,” Diane draws upon the research of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and discusses the various ways in which the brain and body record life experiences, including narrative memory, traumatic memory, implicit memory, and body memory. She then describes the various ways in which those memories can be “recalled” and explains factors affecting the accuracy of each kind of memory, cautioning therapists to minimize suggestibility when working with trauma survivors. Finally, she suggests criteria for evaluating the reliability of “recovered memories.”

Healing of Memories—Replacing Lies with Truth—Tom Hawkins (60 min)

Tom describes how to make memory work most fruitful by identifying the lies the child believed as a result of the trauma and bringing them to God for His application of truth. He also addresses the timing of memory work in the overall therapy process and the key identities who need to be involved.

*Building Blocks of DID: Conflict, Denial, and False Beliefs—Tom and Diane Hawkins (1-2 hours)

Diane explains the key roles which conflict, denial, and false beliefs play in establishing and maintaining the dissociative walls in DID. She then discusses the therapeutic implications of this understanding, including guidelines for relating to difficult alter-identities and doing memory work without triggering negative repercussions or decompensation reactions. Tom explains how the activation of programming and demonic activity is related to conflict, and Diane concludes by discussing ways in which cult perpetrators deliberately produce conflicts to enhance dissociation. This lecture includes up to 3 role plays.

*Overcoming Denial and Dissociation—Diane Hawkins (1-2 hours)

Diane gives guidance in identifying and resolving various types of conflicts in order to eliminate problematic behavior, bring inner healing, and diminish the need for dissociation. She then focuses specifically on identifying and addressing the issues that make denial seem advantageous both in the past and in the present and what it takes to overcome this investment in denial. This lecture includes up to 3 role plays demonstrating the concepts that are taught.

Tom and Diane believe that this and the preceding lecture present concepts that form the crucial cornerstone of DID therapy.

*Primary Identities—Part 1: Capacity and Synchronization—Tom Hawkins (45-60 min)

This lecture addresses some foundational skills needed by both counselors and survivors in DID therapy. Tom describes how in an ideal situation an infant learns to handle negative emotional states and to view himself as a whole individual through synchronization with its mother. When this is missing, the survivor must learn these skills as an adult, which is more difficult, but possible, within the context of a deep, healthy, trustworthy, and knowledgeable relationship. Counselors thus need to learn the skill of synchronizing in order to help build the capacity of their clients to handle negative emotions as well as to gain the trust and cooperation of all types of identities they encounter within a DID survivor.

*Primary Identities—Part 2: Understanding Primary Parts and Desynchronization—Tom Hawkins (60-90 min)

Tom presents new insights in distinguishing the Primary Parts of a multiple from the many alter-identities, who were designed to carry out various roles for the individual. He sees these Primary Parts as carrying the strongest sense of self and being most directly related to the Original Person. Three of these identities are generally closely involved with daily life. Usually one is strongly invested in denial, another is very much in touch with the pain of the abuse, and a third one serves as a buffer between the other two and is quite confused or ambivalent concerning the reality of the trauma. He sees these parts as being desynchronized from each other rather than dissociated. They also manifest other characteristics that distinguish them from alter-identities. This lecture is often concluded with a role play.

*Primary Identities—Part 3: Overcoming Dissociation and Desynchronization—Tom Hawkins (90 min)

Tom begins this lecture by discussing the immense frustrations and seeming futilities of dealing with alter-identity dynamics, including the seemingly endless maze maps. He then offers a relatively new approach of focusing therapy on the Primary Identities. While admittedly needing further documentation and broader acceptance, he is finding that this approach is showing promise of offering a quicker and more direct route to resolving the major issues necessary for the complete therapeutic resolution of DID.

Support Issues—Diane Hawkins  (60-90 min)

In this information-packed session Diane describes the benefits survivors reap when they have the support of other individuals during their healing journeys and discusses the major areas of understanding they need. Beginning with the issue of building trust, she proceeds to give an immense amount of material regarding emotions, including the nature of repressed or dissociated emotions and transference; the need for the survivor to overcome powerful false beliefs about emotions; the healing of emotions; understanding and addressing anger, guilt, fear; and the prevalence of distorted perspectives in multiples. She then discusses the various dynamics involved in self-harm and suicidality, gives guidance in providing spiritual support, explains potential needs for assistance in the survivor’s daily life, and briefly addresses the role of lay persons becoming involved in the healing process for survivors. She concludes with important advice to ensure that support is given in a way that empowers the survivor rather than fostering an ongoing dependence.

Note: Certain segments of this lecture can be given in a smaller time slot, if desired.

The Role of the Church—Diane Hawkins  (30 min)

Diane describes the disappointments that many survivors experience in seeking help and support within the local church. She discusses the dilemmas that both survivors and church leaders face when they confront each other, particularly emphasizing the multi-leveled decisions needing to be made by church leaders. She concludes by suggesting a team approach that can minimize controversy in a church while providing needed support to survivors.

Anger, Hate, & Forgiveness—Diane Hawkins  (45-60 min)

Diane recounts her own journey to understand and apply God’s directives in dealing with these potent issues common to all abuse survivors. Summarizing her intensive study of Scripture, she presents a flow chart designed to distinguish and address two kinds of anger. She then examines the meaning, justice, and benefits of forgiveness as well as its relationship to anger, hate, and restoration of relationship.

Spiritual Dynamics—Tom Hawkins  (60-90 min)

Tom covers a wide variety of spiritual issues related to DID and demonization, including how DID relates to the biblical view of man, justification and sanctification, how demonization occurs and the purposes it serves, principles for effective spiritual warfare and breaking generational inheritances. He also differentiates principles for addressing higher-level cosmic beings.

Cosmic  Hierarchy—Tom Hawkins (60 min)

This is a preliminary examination of the Biblical data relating to the higher levels of the spiritual hierarchy, which includes, among others, the celestial beings, powers, principalities and authorities in the spiritual realm. An understanding of this pertinent information provides a foundation for more efficiently resolving the spiritual bondage occurring in complex DID/RA. This lecture can also include the information on the Appeal to the Heavenly Court.

Heavenly Realms—Tom Hawkins (60 min)

This is an examination of the book of Ephesians designed to lay a foundation for an understanding of the biblical concept of the "heavenlies." This information seems to correlate with what survivors describe as the "dimensions" or "astral planes" and is useful in facilitating freedom for those parts perceived to be trapped, or held captive, "out of the body."

Dimensions of the Mind and Spirit—Diane Hawkins (45-60 min)

Diane describes her growing awareness and understanding of “out of the body” experiences within her system of alter-identities. She also shares her study of Scripture and personal knowledge of various sources of mental imagery and their implications to this issue. She discusses the significance of “out of body” experiences in DID/RA, their relationship to the spiritual realm, and their potential usefulness within the worldwide Satanic agenda. She also points out how understanding this phenomenon can affect the interpretation of what survivors report as “memory” and as dynamics occurring in their “inner world.”

Overview of the Healing Journey—Tom Hawkins (45-60 min)

In this lecture Tom summarizes the admittedly complex issues needing to be addressed for the resolution of DID and DID/RA. He also gives a glimpse of what healing looks like.

Why, God?—Diane Hawkins (45 min)

Diane shares her own experience of seeking answers from God to reconcile His love and power with the horrible abuse He allowed her to suffer. She gives a concise overview of the theology of evil and its place in God’s plan for mankind. To enable survivors to grasp the depth of suffering that Jesus Himself endured because of the evil Satan brought into the world, she presents a dramatic monologue of the events surrounding His crucifixion and ends with the triumphant promises that God has made to all who share in similar types of suffering at the hand of Satan. This presentation provides a particularly potent and victorious conclusion to a seminar.

Therapeutic Demonstration—Tom Hawkins (minimum of 2 hrs)

If willing survivors are available, along with their therapists or prayer ministers, Tom can demonstrate various therapeutic dynamics; including diagnosis, identifying Primary Identities, identifying and resolving conflicts, bringing healing to memories, addressing the beliefs underlying denial, doing deliverance, removing generational inheritances, etc. As in any counseling situation, however, the nature of the dynamics that will surface when working with a given survivor is not always predictable. Tom’s commitment to the best interests of the survivor at the moment always supersedes demonstrating any specific therapeutic technique. When possible, he likes to have a number of survivors available from whom he can choose the individual(s) who seems most suited for demonstration purposes. The audience watches through a closed-circuit video connection from a separate room where the actual therapy takes place.
